Bachelor Projects in Collaboration with University of Bologna - Results published and recognized as “Very Important Paper”
The Bachelor students Luce Albergati and Joël Roeske worked during their Bachelor thesis on novel alginate gel beads as heterogeneous enantioselective catalysts. Part of this work was now just published in the European Journal of Organic Chemistry and the publication was recognized as “Very Important Paper”.
An organic catalyst derived from quinine was entrapped in alginate gels and the resulting catalyst beads are very efficient and highly selective for an asymmetric Michael reaction. This work represents the first utilization of alginates, which are abundant and renewable biopolymers, for catalyst support for asymmetric organocatalytic processes.
