Identify and evaluate bio-based materials that have interesting characteristics for building with negative carbon impacts.
The building and construction sector represents 37% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, the Swiss objective of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 will have a significant impact on this sector. To achieve carbon neutrality, it is imperative to reduce emissions as much as possible and maintain and even increase the sink effect of our natural resources. This mechanism is effective if the carbon sequestered is stored for a long period, or even permanently. In particular, the use of plant-based materials, whose growth has the capacity to sequester biogenic carbon, will allow carbon to be stored over the lifetime of the buildings.
