Energy performance of transformation processes in plastics engineering
In the face of increasingly strained energy markets and a growing risk of shortages that could lead to blackouts, this project aims to empower companies in the plastics industry to take greater control of their energy consumption. By optimizing usage and achieving significant energy savings, participants will be better equipped to adjust their consumption based on energy availability, ultimately supporting a transition toward ecologically responsible production.
Through a complete analysis of current practices and experimentation with a range of enhancements in the laboratories of the iRAP institute at the School of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg, the project aims to identify and implement the most impactful improvements. Additionally, it will train the participating industrial partners' staff in methodologies that guide them toward energy-efficient and ecologically responsible production.
The project's innovation lies in its experimental approach, exploring various settings and parameters to determine their correlation with energy performance. Through this process, partners will gain valuable expertise in monitoring, evaluating, and optimizing the energy performance of their production practices. As production is the heart of any factory, it represents not only the highest energy consumption but also the greatest potential for meaningful improvements.
