This research project is focused on the link between the design of urban open spaces, well-being and energy consumption. It is part of the research consortium SWICE (Sustainable Well-being for the Individual and the Collectivity in the Energy Transition).
This research project is part of the SWICE research consortium (Sustainable Well-being for the Individual and the Collectivity in the Energy Transition), funded by the SWEET program (Swiss Energy Research for the Energy Transition) of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE). The aim of the SWEET program is to accelerate innovations that are essential for implementing Switzerland’s Energy Strategy 2050 and achieving the country’s climate goals.
Within this project, eight work packages (WP) are involved in studying different aspects of well-being in the energy transition. WP5 focuses on the relationship between the design of open urban spaces and outdoor well-being during heatwaves.
As part of SWICE WP5, HEIA-FR has developed the urban living lab “O’Frais au Schönberg”, which aims to test temporary interventions to improve the quality of outdoor spaces during heatwaves, in close collaboration with neighborhood residents.

This project is supported by the SWEET programme of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy and coordinated by the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). SWEET - "Swiss Energy Research for the Energy Transition" - is a funding programme whose aim is to accelerate innovations that are essential to the implementation of Switzerland's 2050 energy strategy and the achievement of the country's climate objectives. The SWICE project is composed of 8 work packages (WP), the actual project is the WP5.
